LISBON — Water Commissioner Stan “Chip” Doughty was re-elected with 130 write-in votes in Tuesday’s election.
Doughty did not seek re-election and no one else filed for the position, leaving it up to voters to write in their choice. Because of the number of write-in ballots that had to be counted, election workers did not complete the final tally until Wednesday. In addition to Doughty’s 130 votes, there were 320 scattered write-ins, Town Clerk Twila Lycette said.
As the referendum question asking voters if they wanted to “dissolve the water department” and have “all functions assumed by the town” was advisory only, the Town Council will review the results and hear feedback from residents before making a decision on how to proceed.
Voters narrowly favored the change by a vote of 2,247 to 2,212, Lycette said.
