LEWISTON – A plate glass window shattered and a building was damaged late Friday after a car slid into the front of Canal Street Plaza.
It happened at about 10 p.m., a witness said, after the driver of one car drove through a red light, forcing a second car into the building.
Nobody was hurt in the wreck. Police were investigating the crash later Friday night. It remained unclear who was driving the car that sped away.
The driver of the car that struck the building was not immediately identified.
Fire crews also responded. Once the car was towed out of the building, a city code enforcement office was called to the scene to assess the damage.
The plaza is near the intersection of Canal and Chestnut streets, across from the Wiseman Bridge.
