RUMFORD — Mountain Valley Middle School will be hosting a night of bingo Friday, March 22, to raise money for the seventh-grade class field trip to Bryant Pond in May.
According to teacher Lindsay MacMillan, the idea for the bingo night came from her seventh-grade class from the previous school year. It had hosted a bingo night as part of a service learning project.
“This year, we were looking for a little extra money to help us get to Bryant Pond for a field trip,” MacMillan said. “We do a lot of fundraising through grants, so between the bingo night, our previous fundraising efforts this year and the grants, it’ll be like paying pennies compared to what it could have been.”
The price for an evening of bingo is $3. MacMillan said that during each round of bingo, the winner will receive a “sweet treat,” including cakes, pies and other dessert-type foods.
“We wanted to make sure that everyone who played had the opportunity to get something,” MacMillan said. “So if you buy a ticket to play bingo for the evening, you’ll automatically get a cupcake.”
Bingo night will begin at 6 p.m. and will last until all of the “sweet treats” are given out. According to MacMillan, the food will be donated by the students’ families. In addition to the bingo games, the PTO will be offering a variety of snacks to those in attendance.
MacMillan explained that the field trip to Bryant Pond may include a visit to The Bumpus Mine and a variety of other group activities, including canoeing and traversing a ropes course.
“Each year, it’s different, depending on the class,” MacMillan said. “But either way, there will be a lot of stuff for the kids to do there.”
