DIXFIELD — The Board of Selectmen on Monday will discuss receipt of a grant to build a sidewalk from Nash Street to Dirigo Middle School on Weld Street.
Town Manager Eugene Skitbisky said the town received a “big sidewalk grant” through the Maine Department of Transportation.
“It’s a pretty big deal, because for a while, we didn’t know if there would be enough money to fund the project,” Skibitsky said. “The design work has already been funded, so this money would be going towards the construction.”
The sidewalk would got from Nash Street to Weld Street, and from Weld Street to Dirigo Middle School, he said.
The board will also discuss the possibility of permanently switching Dixfield to the Maine Department of Transportation’s fuel pumps. Skibitsky said the town switched from its own fuel pumps to the pumps on MDOT property because the pumps in Dixfield “were considered antiquated equipment and would’ve been expensive to fix.”
“MDOT has been really good about reaching out to the municipalities in the region and letting them use their fuel system,” Skibitsky said. “I’m going to recommend to the board that we switch over to MDOT permanently.”
The board will also hear from resident Dan McKay in regards to possible articles to be put on the warrant for the annual town meeting during the public comment section.
