JAY — Two men were injured Thursday morning when one man stopped his car to talk to a Water District employee repairing Route 4 in North Jay and a small truck rear-ended his car, which was pushed off the road and struck trees.
Matthew Gaudet, 51, of Jay was traveling south and stopped his car to talk to the employee, Jay police Sgt. Troy Young said.
Benjamin Stimans, 62, of Livermore Falls didn’t see Gaudet’s car, rear-ended it and pushed itt off the road into trees at about 11:18 a.m., Young said.
Air bags deployed in both vehicles.
Jay firefighters had to cut the roof off Gaudet’s 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt to free him, Young said.
Gaudet complained of head pain and was taken by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Stimans complained of shoulder pain and abrasions and was taken by ambulance to FMH. He also was treated and released, Young said.
Both the Cobalt and Stiman’s 2004 Ford Ranger were demolished and towed from the scene, Young said.
