FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting dedicated traffic enforcement details with an emphasis on seat belt enforcement over the next several weeks as part of a national “Click it or Ticket” safety campaign.
Deputies will be working special assignments in all areas of Franklin County to ensure compliance with Maine’s seat belt and occupant protection laws, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Department.
The department received nearly $1,800 from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety to conduct the details. The Sheriff’s Department in conjunction with Mt. Blue Television, developed a video public safety announcement (https://vimeo.com/66241630) connected to the safety campaign that features Deputy Nate Reid.
“National statistics reveal that about 86 percent of the motoring public regularly wore seat belts in 2012,” according to the statement. “This percentage has steadily increased from 58 percent in 1994. As a result the number of traffic fatalities has also decreased over time. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office wants everyone to have a safe and enjoyable summer so please obey all traffic laws, and please remember to buckle up.”
