My name is Cathy Holt and I am co-chair of Relay For Life in Androscoggin County 2013. I have been involved in this Relay for four years.

My involvement in Relay began when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2008. I had an outpouring of support from my family, friends, co- workers and community. I wanted to give back and wasn’t sure how until some of the great nurses I had for my chemotherapy treatments introduced me to the survivor lap at Relay. It moved me and was one of the proudest moments of my life, for I had just beaten cancer, and I knew then at that Relay how I could give back.

The following year, my family and I formed a Relay team to both raise awareness and fundraise for the greater Androscoggin Relay for Life. The American Cancer Society offers some amazing services, including the “Look Good Feel Good Program.” I have used this service; it provides assistance with makeup, hair loss and overall wellbeing. It made the trauma of losing my hair easier and less stressful.

Another service ACS provides is transportation to and from doctor appointments. We are in great need of volunteers for this transportation service in the Androscoggin County area.

I look forward to helping the volunteer services in our community to grow, and expand community support.

Next year is the 20th anniversary for Relay for this county and I am both proud and honored to chair this event surrounded by all the amazing volunteers gathered around me. Without them and all the continued support from our sponsors and the community, we would not be able to “Finish the Fight!”
