RANGELEY — Selectmen were given a tour of the Fire Department’s new equipment at Monday’s board meeting.
Fire Chief Tim Pellerin invited the board next door to the service bays. The centerpiece of the new purchases is the tower truck with a 95-foot aerial platform. It recently arrived from a fire department in Pennsylvania.
The truck came equipped with all ladders, hoses and hand tools, and can transport six firefighters in the cab. Pellerin estimates the truck to be good for 20 years of service. Also on display was the new command vehicle, which carries rescue equipment, radio and command board.
Pellerin requested permission to conduct fire safety inspections of food vendors before a new liquor license or renewal is granted. The inspections will begin at the start of the new fiscal year July 1.
A liquor license renewal was granted to the Red Onion.
Nancy Bessey of Moose Alley requested an extension of her liquor license for outdoor events. She plans to fence off a section of her parking lot, bring in sand and set up picnic tables and games such as volleyball. The outdoor extension is patterned on Moose Alley’s activities at last year’s Oktoberfest.
Code Enforcement Officer Amanda Lessard said the plans are an intensification of use that may need a review of land use by the Planning Board and a possible public hearing.
The board directed Town Manager Tim Kane to write a letter to the state liquor agent advising that the board allowed extension of the outdoor liquor license.
Kane has been working with the University of New England on a survey for services that Rangeley residents want and need in a pharmacy. The survey will soon be available at the Town Office, Chamber of Commerce, the Health Center and Wellness Pavilion. The survey is planned to run through Oct. 31.
