Paul LePage visits with students in Mike Courchesne’s eighth-grade domestic violence workshop at Lewiston Middle School on Thursday. “There is only one way to eliminate domestic violence in society,” LePage said. “You have to work together to make it unacceptable.” LePage left home when he was 11-years-old because of his abusive father. He lived on the streets but managed to graduate from Lewiston High School, then located in the what is now the middle school building. LePage’s visit “brings domestic abuse to the surface,” Courchesne said. “It shows the kids how important an issue it is. . . . (LePage) is a busy man and for him to take the time to visit shows how strongly he feels about domestic violence,” he said. “Learn as much as you can,” LePage advised students. “That is the biggest equalizer in life.”
