WILTON — A recount of votes Monday for a seat on the Board of Selectmen confirmed Tiffany Maiuri won the seat over Raymond Lagasse by six votes in last week’s election.
The recount took place at the Town Office at Lagasse’s request.
The results from the June 4 election put Maiuri ahead by seven votes, 158-151. They both sought the seat vacated when Selectman Russell Black decided not to run again.
“Life goes on,” Lagasse said Monday morning after Town Clerk Diane Dunham announced Maiuri’s win still stands.
Lagasse said he requested the recount for all the people who did vote for him.
“I wanted to ensure their vote was counted,” he said.
As Code Enforcement Officer Paul Montague and Wilton Water Clerk Linda Bureau went through each ballot, Dunham watched and Maiuri kept her own count, tallying each vote on a computer tablet reaching a final count of 156.
The intent on one ballot could not be determined and was thrown out. Four ballots were blank.
The final vote, Dunham said, was 156 for Maiuri and 150 for Lagasse.
“The results stand,” Dunham said.
