AUBURN — A Lewiston man accused of threatening a woman with a crowbar in connection with the April slaying of Romeo Parent denied a felony charge on Thursday.
Adam Nutter, 18, of 50 Fairmount St., appeared in Androscoggin County Superior Court where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon. The Class C charge is punishable by up to five years in prison.
Prosecutors say Nutter threatened Jessica Gaudette, 22, who, police say, was Parent’s former girlfriend.
She told police she learned about events leading up to Parent’s death and that Michael McNaughton, 23, of Lewiston had killed Parent.
Gaudette told police that McNaughton had stayed with her days before Parent’s death. She said McNaughton told her he planned to use military training in dealing with Parent.
McNaughton said Parent had been causing problems in the community by snitching on people, including a friend of McNaughton’s, according to court papers.
Police say McNaughton killed Parent, 20, of Lewiston in the woods in Greene. McNaughton stabbed Parent in the neck with a screwdriver and also strangled him with wire.
McNaughton pleaded not guilty to a murder charge last month.
A judge continued Nutter’s $200 cash bail and ordered him to have no contact except for incidental encounters with Gaudette, who lives in the same housing complex.
Several other people have been arraigned on charges in connection with Parent’s death.
