PORTLAND (AP) — A Hancock County prosecutor faces disciplinary action after acknowledging to violating multiple bar rules during the trial of a rape suspect.

Assistant District Attorney Mary Kellett acknowledged the violations at a hearing Monday. Lawyers for Kellett and the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar reached an agreement before the hearing in Cumberland County Superior Court.

Under the agreement, Kellett’s license could be suspended in the future but she can continue to practice law for now, with additional ethics training.

A Gouldsboro man acquitted of rape filed the complaint, alleging Kellett violated bar rules in her closing arguments, withheld evidence and interfered with defense subpoenas.

A lawyer for Kellett told The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/15i7GP6) she has been accused of misconduct once in 10 years, encompassing 10,000 prosecutions.
