SKOWHEGAN (AP) — A Palmyra man charged with fatally beating a Detroit man in his own home is headed to court.
The Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/14edmHi ) reported that Jason Cote is scheduled to appear in Somerset County Superior Court on Friday to face a murder charge.
Authorities said the 22-year-old Cote killed 47-year-old Ricky Cole, whose body was found in his mobile home on July 18. The medical examiner determined that Cole died of blunt force trauma.
Cote, who’s been held without bail since his arrest Wednesday, will get a court-appointed lawyer at the hearing.
Police have said the men knew each other but have not disclosed a possible motive for the slaying.
Cole’s death was the first homicide in Detroit in more than three decades. That case was ruled self-defense.
