The park proposition of E.S. Paul, in which he offered the wood lot on Lake Street, Auburn, as a city park and public playground, was discussed from every viewpoint at the special meeting of the Auburn city government, Thursday evening, and after considering the assessed value of the wood lot, the abatement of the Shepley Street sewer assessment of about $1200, the improvement of streets and lots between Shepley Street, Gamage Avenue and Western Promenade, and the cost of improving the lot itself, the proposition was rejected.

The president of a Lewiston firm last night confirmed a report that his corporation is anticipating moving its Lisbon Street shoe store closer to Main Street. Maynard W. Moulton, president of Maynard’s Boot Shop Corp., currently located at 180 Lisbon St. said that a move is being planned in the near future. The Lewiston businessman, whose store has been situated at its present location the past 31 years, reported that the store would move into the former home of Russell’s Clothing Co. presently occupied by the Vincent Gift Shop at 120 Lisbon St. Moulton said, “We have great faith in Lisbon Street as a merchandising center.” Mrs. Aurore M. Vincent, proprietor of the gift shop, will relocate her shop to the former home of Kinney Show Store at 22 Lisbon St.

The top 60 feet of Christian Hill, a granite outcropping less than a mile from the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport, would be crushed and removed by a downtown development firm if the airfield’s directors agree. The excavation would reduce the hill to less than half its present height of 93 feet above the airport. For pilots landing at the airport on instrument-only flights, and those using radar, the hill’s sharp rise makes a crash appear imminent, Airport Manager John Carey said.
