AUGUSTA (AP) — The Maine State Bar Association has launched a campaign aimed at providing legal help to veterans.
The bar association says the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan over the coming 17 months will result in returning service members who will face employment and financial challenges, stressful family situations and legal issues that might have developed while they were deployed.
The association is partnering with ArmyOneSource to recruit Maine attorneys to help serve members, veterans and their families.
Executive Director Angela Weston says the campaign goal is to get as many Maine attorneys as possible to step forward to help by presenting a legal clinic or workshop at military events or to provide pro bono or reduced-rate legal advice or representation to service members and veterans.
The campaign runs through Sept. 17.
