AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine lawmakers are gearing up to begin negotiations on several bond proposals.
The Appropriations Committee on Tuesday will start working on bonds carried over from last session, among other issues.
Democratic Rep. Peggy Rotundo of Lewiston, chair of the committee, said lawmakers will hear from officials from Maine’s financial review office and economists about the importance of bonds to Maine’s economic development.
More than 30 bond proposals are before the committee. Among those is a $100 million bond for Maine’s roads and bridges backed by Gov. Paul LePage.
The Republican governor again criticized Democrats in a statement Monday for not yet moving his transportation bond forward, saying they’re putting construction projects at risk.
Democrats said they need to examine all proposals, including bonds for transportation, education and research and development.
