Three groups of stunning Celtic musicians will share the billing in this local installment of the Celtic Crossroads festival. Ferrel is considered one of the seminal traditional New England and Maritime fiddlers. His CD recording “Yankee Dreams” was selected by the Library of Congress to be included in their “Select list of 25 examples of American folk music on record” and he has frequently been featured on “A Prairie Home Companion.” Ferrel will bring two veteran performers with him, pianist Rob Choinnire and Maine button-box legend Smokey McKeen.

Next, Nova Scotia native Chrissy Crowley on fiddle and guitarist Owen Marshall will collaborate, drawing from a deep well of Irish styles and influences from Canada and the U.S. Their quick, well-delivered wit will complement Crowley’s fiddle playing.

The evening will close with a set from the women’s supergroup, Boston-based Long Time Courting featuring Shannon Heaton on flute, accordion and vocals of Matt & Shannon Heaton and Childsplay; Liz Simmons on guitar and vocals of Annalivia and the John Whelan Band; Valerie Thompson on cello and vocals of Laura Cortese’s Acoustic Project and Fluttr Effect; and newest member Katie McNally on fiddle and vocals, also of Childsplay. Together as Long Time Courting, these four talented women offer an extraordinary blend of neo-traditional Irish, Scottish and American music that showcases each musician’s versatility, creativity and mastery. Exquisite vocal harmonies combine with formidable instrumental prowess to create music that is both playful and richly satisfying.

This concert is part of the 2013 Celtic Crossroads Festival celebrating Celtic music and presenting outstanding performers from across the Celtic diaspora in small towns throughout Franklin and Oxford counties.

“Celtic Reflections” starts at 7 p.m. at the Brick Church for the Performing Arts on Christian Hill Road. Tickets at the door or online at http://crossroadscelticfestival.com/shows will be $15. For more information, call 207-925-1500 or email info@crossroadscelticfestival.com.
