WATERVILLE — Officials have determined a fire that damaged a vacant house on Elm Court last weekend was started intentionally.

Sgt. Ken Grimes of the state fire marshal’s office said Friday authorities have ruled out accidental causes.

The Aug. 25. fire started on the first floor of a vacant house around 1:25 a.m. Waterville Fire Chief David LaFountain has said the property is owned by Deutsche Bank.

Grimes noted had the fire engulfed the whole building, it could’ve spread to other properties near the house.

“The fire department was excellent in getting on scene quickly and knocking the fire down,” Grimes said.

No suspects have been identified, according to Grimes.

“If anybody saw or heard anything we would like to know or Waterville police would like to know,” Grimes explained.

Grimes said authorities have a description of a vehicle that left the scene just prior to the fire breaking out. He said officials are looking to speak to the owner, who is not considered a suspect at this point.
