LEWISTON — A Lewiston man was arrested in a series of drug busts that snared 14 people on the Maine Turnpike and at Portland’s two bus stations over two days.

Maine State Police seized $32,000 worth of drugs intended for distribution in Maine, spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a news release.

Four of the 14 charged were suspected of bringing drugs into Maine from outside the state. They were taken into custody shortly after arriving in Portland by bus last week.

State police worked with state and federal drug agents as well as Amtrak police, McCausland said. Those four appeared to have no connection with each other, he said. One of them was carrying a .22-caliber handgun.

Among the four was Cyrus Martin, 43, of Lewiston. He was charged with trafficking in Suboxone; police seized 900 Suboxone strips from him.

The 10 others were charged with minor drug offenses.

Drugs seized included cocaine, crack, ecstasy, oxycodone and marijuana. Cash seized totaled $2,800.

Maine State Police Chief Col. Robert Williams said the drugs seized were intended for Maine streets. He said police will continue to use troopers and members of the state’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit to identify people suspected of importing drugs into Maine by car, bus or train.
