Photography by Beth Francis and Marian Marks is on display in the main lobby of the hospital near the 60 High Street entrance.

Francis, a trained graphic artist, has had a life-long interest in photography. Her work has won  first- and third-place in juried shows. Her work can be seen at eyeofthebeholderbf.weebly.com.

“I?am a creative person by nature so dabbling in photography is a great outlet for me. Since I?work way too many hours indoors, I seek to capture outdoor images then bring them inside to enjoy. I?love to capture the beauty of things that we see every day but, in our busy lives, miss the opportunity to take in. Things like natural light in common surroundings, and landscapes. Taking these images and framing them gives me more creative possibilities,” Francis said.

Marks is an ordained Lutheran minister and amateur photographer. She specializes in outdoor photography, especially birds and wildlife. Her work was accepted in the University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn College’s biennial Area Artist’s Show in 2011 and 2013, and has won numerous ribbons at the Maine State Sportsman’s show and the Fryeburg Fair.

“I consciously set out to see more, and to capture what I see. I have also tried to become aware of what exactly has caught my eye. Is it color, shape, texture, composition, contrast, mood? Then the challenge becomes to capture those aspects of a scene that attracted me. With wildlife the challenge is to capture something of the personality of the birds and animals in my viewfinder,” Marks said.

The artwork on display may be purchased through the WHA Gift Shop. A percentage of sale proceeds benefit CMMC.
