MEXICO — The Mexico and Rumford boards of selectmen will gather at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Mexico Town Office for a joint meeting to discuss a recently approved proposal that may help identify areas where the towns could cooperate and consolidate services.

The towns of Mexico and Rumford have been meeting since June to discuss ways the two towns could merge municipal services. During a joint meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 4, they received a proposal from New Hampshire consultants Municipal Resources Inc., who said that they would put together a comprehensive study of any towns wishing to participate, which will help “provide an independent, objective evaluation in which the consultants will seek to identify opportunities to reduce or eliminate duplication and redundancy, and to maximize utilization of human and financial resources along with facilities and equipment within participating communities.”

The Mexico and Rumford Boards of Selectmen unanimously voted to approve the proposal, on the condition that Municipal Resources provides a list of references of towns that they have helped in the past.

Linda Pagels-Wentworth, the Dixfield Town Manager, along with Dixfield selectmen Scott Belskis and Bob Withrow, attended the joint meeting in hopes of learning more about the company’s proposal and to see if it would be a good fit for their town.

According to Pagels-Wentworth, she, Rumford Town Manager Carlo Puiia and Mexico Town Manager John Madigan held a conference call recently to look over the references provided by Municipal Resources. The results will be discussed during the joint meeting on Sept. 24.

Following the joint meeting, the Mexico Board of Selectmen will hold their regular selectmen’s meeting at 6:30 p.m.
