ORONO — Lanette Bryant, daughter of Bruce and Marlene Bryant of Dixfield, was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology on May 11 at the University of Maine at Orono.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Natalia Portuondo of Bethel has enrolled at Eckerd College. Portuondo is among 500-plus new students at Eckerd for the fall 2013 term.

WATERVILLE — Tracy Jewell of New Sharon was named to the dean’s list at Thomas College for the 2013 Continuing Education Division Summer II semester. Jewell is majoring in business administration – finance/economics concentration.

OXFORD — Oxford Police Chief Jonathan Tibbetts was named to the presidents list at Kaplan University for the May 2013 term in the criminal justice program with a 4.0 average.

BATON ROUGE — Katelyn Kirk of Leeds recently was awarded a Love of Learning award worth $500 by The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. She is one of 147 recipients nationwide to receive the award.

Kirk was initiated into the society in 2013 at University of Maine. She currently is pursuing her master’s degree in forensic psychology and John Jay College of Criminal Justice and plans to use funds from the award for school supplies.

PORTLAND — More than 52 USM students, faculty and alumni affiliated with the university’s School of Music and Department of Theatre took part in the PORTopera’s recent performances of “La Boheme.”

Student participants included Emily Waller, Auburn, assistant props master and carpenter; and Joshua Witham, Norway, chorus.

All of the performers had to audition for the chorus and roles and received a small stipend for their work.

SEARCY, Ark. — Mariam Haji-Hersi of Auburn was welcomed to the Harding University College of Pharmacy at the annual white coat ceremony in August.

The ceremony was the culmination of a week of introductions to the program.

In front of an audience of family, friends and faculty members, Haji-Hersi was officially inducted into the program and received a white coat and name tag. This tradition represents the transition into the professional level of pharmacy education and commitment to providing high-quality health care.

CINCINNATI — Barker Matthias of Wilton has graduated from the University of Cincinnati McMicken College of Arts and Sciences with a Master of Arts degree.

WEST HAVEN, Conn. — Ainsley Kilgore of Winthrop graduated from the University of New Haven on Aug. 24 with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice.

PORT ORANGE, Fla. — Michael Pease received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree during commencement exercises at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Florida Campus, on Sept. 20.

Dr. Pease is the son of Larry Pease and Louise Duval of Lewiston. He currently resides in Tampa, where he will establish a clinic.

To earn the degree, Pease completed 4 1/3 academic years of professional study at Palmer College.
