FREEPORT (AP) — Some Freeport residents are expressing concerns over L.L. Bean’s plans to expand its paddling center with a new 7,200 square-foot lodge.
The new building in the Flying Point neighborhood will house indoor showers, lockers for paddlers. The company started kayak and stand-up paddle boarding instruction and tours several years ago.
Some residents worry that the expansion will open the door to even more growth from the company. Others are questioning the city’s approval of the structure.
L.L Bean spokeswoman Carolyn Beem told The Press Herald (http://bit.ly/19lLfOJ ) that the company has tried to be open about its plans and compatible with the neighborhood.
Construction on the new center could begin before the end of the year and be completed by next spring.
