RUMFORD — A two-vehicle accident on Route 2 in Rumford on Tuesday morning left three passengers with minor injuries, according to Rumford police Chief Stacy Carter.
Carter said that officers with the Rumford Police Department responded to the report of a car accident on Route 2, just past Sam’s Italian Shop, around noon.
According to police, Karissah Anastasio, 19, of Rumford was driving west on Route 2 in her 2000 Mercury Sable with two passengers when a 2010 GMC truck traveling east, driven by Larry White, 59, of Mexico, crossed the center line into the opposite lane of travel.
Carter said that Anastasio attempted to avoid White’s truck by veering right but was subsequently struck on the driver’s side. Anastasio continued toward the southbound breakdown lane, where she came to a rest, while White’s vehicle fishtailed and slid sideways along the southbound lane before coming to a rest alongside the road.
Both vehicles were demolished; Anastasio’s vehicle was towed by Roland’s Automotive, while White’s vehicle was towed by Bisson and Heberts.
MedCare and Rumford fire responded to the scene; Anastasio and her two passengers suffered minor injuries but were not transported to the hospital.
Traffic was diverted to Prospect Avenue for a short time, Carter said.
