The Old Town Police Department is looking for folks who would like to help out at the station for a volunteers policing program to help reduce the workload on staff.
According to Chief Scott Wilcox, the department has a heavy amount of paperwork it could use a hand with, as well as a need for staffing at the front lobby window, where nobody has been for more than two years. Plans call for the window to be staffed starting in September, from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday; volunteers are being sought for 3:30 to 5 p.m. or so, as well as some weekend hours. Additionally, volunteers are needed to help with data entry, such as the paperwork for summonses. Such data entry could have flexible hours, said Wilcox.
“It’s an opportunity to help out the department and community,” said Wilcox. “People could volunteer as much or as little as they want.”
