LIVERMORE FALLS — Long touchdown runs by Alwayne Uter and Brandon Stearns broke it open in the second quarter Friday night, sending Spruce Mountain to a 56-19 Western Class C football win over Gray-New Gloucester.
Spruce Mountain (5-1) has won four straight games and remains in the hunt for one of the two first-round byes in the regional playoffs.
The Phoenix led 21-6 before scoring three quick touchdowns prior to the half.
Stearns’ run covered 43 yards. Gray-NG (0-6) muffed the ensuing kickoff, and Matt Vigue picked it up and ran it for another score.
G-NG scored twice in the fourth quarter.
Mt. Blue 41, Gardiner 0
FARMINGTON — Kindle Bonsall rushed for two touchdowns Friday night and Mt. Blue halted a three-game Eastern Class B losing skid with a 41-0 shutout of winless Gardiner at Caldwell Field.
Mt. Blue (3-3) dropped games to Messalonskee, York and Brunswick since shutting out Lawrence in Week 2.
The Cougars ripped open a 28-0 halftime lead. Andrew Pratt got it started with a 39-yard TD strike to Cam Abbott.
Bonsall went 28 yards to the end zone in the first quarter and added a 6-yard score early in the second.
J.T. Williams’ 5-yard scamper supplied the halftime advantage.
Alex Gilbert and Austin Henault added touchdown runs in the second half for Mt. Blue, which played without injured seniors Nate Backus and Connor Farrington.
Wells 38, Poland 20
WELLS — Everett Bertrand’s 75-yard kick return for a touchdown put Poland on the board in the first half, but Wells ultimately had too much firepower in a 38-20 Western Class C football win.
Robbie Porter had a 5-yard touchdown run and William Adams added a 6-yard score, both in the fourth quarter, for the Knights (1-5).
Wells (5-1) led 7-0 after one quarter and 24-7 at the half. Chris Carney had two early TD runs.
