The clothes reel in the backyard is getting to be a dangerous place to hang the family washing, according to the reports received at Lewiston police headquarters. Thursday morning three complaints came into the office that lines had been divested of clothes. Wednesday evening Patrolman W. Murphy, assisted by D.E. Murphy, arrested two woodsmen who were intoxicated. They had pulled some clothes from a line on Middle street, Lewiston, and complaint was made against them. It was learned later that the men were on their way to the woods and were out on a spree. They had been in Lewiston but an hour before they were arrested. Then were placed before the police court and fined. They had considerable money with them.

Valley Airlines has done a good job in the air since coming to the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport last year, but the Twin Cities’ only commercial airline needs to do more on the ground, the airport’s manager says. “They’ve got to meet eyeball to eyeball with business people and say: “Our airline is reliable,” manager John Carey said last week. Only 50 people a month have flown in and out of the Auburn-Lewiston airport since Valley took over for Eastern Express last November, airline officials said. Eastern Express pulled out because it couldn’t attract enough customers. “I am concerned,” Carey said, noting that Valley almost always meets time schedules with its three daily flights. But the airline doesn’t drive home that fact while competing for customers with the Portland Jetport, about an hour’s drive away.
