RUMFORD — Selectmen will hear a presentation from the Western Maine Economic Development Council at their 7 p.m. meeting Thursday in Rumford Falls Auditorium.
Town Manager Carlo Puiia said selectmen asked Glen Holmes, director of the Western Maine Economic Development Council, and Jim Rinaldo, a member of the River Valley Growth Council from Rumford, to do a study on economic development opportunities in Rumford.
“They said that they would be looking at where there is a vacancy in the town, where there is a need for development,” Puiia said Wednesday afternoon. “On Thursday, they’ll be presenting information from that study.”
In other business, selectmen will review the draft of a letter from Code Enforcement Officer Richard Kent about a vacant building at 7 Ernest St. Puiia said a resident said the building seemed dangerous.
“The board asked our code enforcement officer to draft a letter that would go to the owner on record, warning them that their building needs a plan of correction,” Puiia said. “In this case, it’s our understanding that the building is owned by a bank. The letter gives them notice that if the building is not fixed, it could be torn down by the town.”
Selectmen will also hear a request from the Fireman’s Relief Association and the River Valley Chamber of Commerce for approval of a permit for the Christmas in the Valley Parade later in the year.
