Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King and Rep. Michaud said maintaining flights to small- and medium-sized airports is important for businesses and tourism, as well as local residents.
The two senators wrote a letter to the heads of the airlines asking them to take into account the local economics in Portland and Bangor and other communities in Maine when cutting flights.
It’s too early to tell what impact the merger might mean in Maine.
But Michaud said, “Congress’s position on preserving service to small and rural communities is clear.”
