AUBURN — Elijah Gervais-Hyde of Sanford is one of five Maine Community College students who have been awarded the Retail Lumber Dealers of Maine Brian Thayer Memorial Scholarship.

Elijah is a student in the Building Construction Technology associate degree program at Central Maine Community College. He is currently enrolled in Building Concepts II, Construction Site Surveying, Construction Health and Safety, and Hand and Power Tool Safety.

The Retail Lumber Dealers Association of Maine was established in 1933 to foster the interests of those in the retail lumber and building materials industry. Affiliated with the Northeast Retail Lumber Association, the group provides educational and training opportunities for its members and scholarships for deserving students in the construction fields.

The Building Construction Technology program at CMCC prepares students for successful employment in construction-related fields. Through a combination of classroom study, mock-ups and live projects, students obtain hands-on experience and become broadly familiar with methods, standards and codes commonly associated with the construction industry. The program offers students the opportunity to earn a certificate or an associate in applied science degree.
