FARMINGTON — County commissioners started their meeting with a public hearing on the proposed Unorganized Territories (U.T.) budget for fiscal year 2014-2015. Following the brief hearing, the commissioners voted unanimously to accept the budget as presented.
The total U.T. budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2014 will be $1,125,368.
During the public hearing, Jim Roderick of Madrid asked for an update on the East Madrid Road and when the road will be repaired. The survey work is still being completed, so no answers are available at this time.
Commissioner Gary McGrane indicated that he was satisfied with the content of the budget as proposed, other than the increase for waste management in Kingfield. That increase was addressed at the last meeting and there aren’t significant increases in other areas of the budget.
Chair Clyde Barker indicated that he has spoken with Jerry Haines, the county’s road agent, about repairing a portion of the Gilkey Hill Road “that’s in pretty bad shape.” There will be enough to cover this repair even though $300,000 less has been budgeted than last year.
Commissioners also held two executive sessions, one relating to a personnel matter and the other a labor negotiation for the Sheriff’s Department. No action was taken at the end of the first session.
Commissioners did vote to pay for holiday time for the Sheriff’s Department. They also agreed to pay $600 for the plain clothes two detectives have purchased for their jobs after being hired in 2012.
