PARIS — A Connecticut woman is expected to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on Friday to address her bail for charges related to a heroin trafficking ring that operated in the Rumford area in 2012.

Emily J. Amellin, 28, of New Haven, Conn., was arrested by federal drug agents in Connecticut last week on a warrant from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and waived extradition to Maine. She was transported to the Oxford County Jail on Tuesday afternoon to face charges in the case, according to MDEA supervisor Matt Cashman.

Amellin was indicted by an Oxford County grand jury in December on drug trafficking, criminal conspiracy and illegal drug importation charges, all felonies.

She is accused of bringing a substantial amount of heroin — at least 270 individual bags — across state lines into Auburn and the Rumford-Mexico area between April and July 2012. She also is accused of working with Sarah Bosworth, Corey Edinbourgh, Daniel Richard, Logan White or others to transport heroin and money.

Bosworth, Edinbourgh and Richard were arrested in July 2012 in MDEA raids on their apartments and a vehicle in which Bosworth was traveling. The raids were the culmination of a six-month investigation. Raids netted 420 doses of heroin, marijuana, digital scales and other evidence.

At the time, MDEA agents estimated that the group was bringing up to 4,700 doses of heroin per week into the Rumford area.

Logan White also was charged in the incident and turned himself in to authorities in August 2012.

Amellin is being held on $100,000 cash bail at Oxford County Jail. Her bail amount was amended from $20,000 after a motion by Assistant Attorney General David Fisher was signed by Justice Robert Clifford.

In his motion for higher bail, Fisher argued that Amellin did not have any connections in Maine, is considered a flight risk and has refused to waive extradition from Connecticut on two other occasions.
