PARIS — Prosecutors have dismissed a case against Brian Cronkite, 28, a Bethel man accused of assaulting and terrorizing a woman at his home in July.
Cronkite’s attorney, Maurice Porter, said Friday that his client was relieved the case is over.
“Brian is happy to get his life back,” Porter said. “This has been a very traumatizing experience for him.”
Assistant District Attorney Richard Beauchesne filed the dismissal in Oxford County Superior Court on Wednesday.
In October, an Oxford County grand jury indicted Cronkite on assault, domestic violence, terrorizing and criminal restraint charges.
On Friday, Beauchesne said “substantial inconsistencies” between the alleged victim’s initial claims and her subsequent claims would make it impossible to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”
