BETHEL — Selectmen agreed Monday to draft a letter to the Maine Department of Transportation saying they’re interested in applying for the radar speed trailer loan program again.

The trailer is set up in certain places in town and displays how fast drivers are going, Town Manager Jim Doar said.

Doar said the town normally participates in the program whenever they can, but since it recently received the trailer, they’re likely “at the bottom of the list.”

In other business, the Bethel Recreation Facilities Committee recommended to selectmen that the town hire a half-time recreation director.

Doar said the decision of whether or not to approve the director would fall to the Budget Committee.

He said the Budget Committee will also decide whether to upgrade the code enforcement officer from half-time to full-time.

At their May 6, 2013, meeting, the board voted to appoint seven residents to the Bethel Recreation Facilities Committee, a group that Doar said would “prepare a plan for recreational facilities at Davis Park, which may include, but not be limited to, basketball courts, tennis courts and a dog park.” He said the group would also “detail necessary ancillary facilities, costs and permits necessary for implementation.”
