GILEAD — Town meeting voters approved everything on the warrant on Saturday night, except making the road commissioner an appointed position rather than elected, Selectman Alfred Leighton said Monday afternoon.

They also didn’t approve raising $2,000 to build a small sand shed outside the Transfer Station for residents to get sand when the Transfer Station is closed, Town Clerk Linsley Chapman said via email on Tuesday, Currently, Gilead’s sand supply is behind the station’s gated entrance.

Selectmen had recommended changing the way the road commissioner is picked, but voters stuck with what they’ve done in the past when asked the same question at town meeting.

The amount to be raised from taxes for municipal expenses is $174,052, because someone raised the salary for the tax collector by $500, Chapman said. The amount to be raised is down nearly $40,000 from last year’s $213,415.

Selectman Jeremy Morin was re-elected to a three-year term and Warren Thurston was also elected to a 3- year term as a member of the Gilead School Board

More than 50 people attended the meeting, Leighton said.
