AUGUSTA (AP) — The largest union representing Central Maine Power workers has rejected a 3-year contract extension.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1837 said 13 meetings were held this week, each one ending in a ballot vote. The contract extension was rejected.

Local 1837 business manager Dick Rogers said many workers didn’t like health insurance changes and felt like their wages are competitive compare to other regional utilities.

Negotiators for the union and CMP are prepared to begin negotiations on a successor contract agreement. The current agreement runs through the end of next month.
