RUMFORD — Police said a confrontation over a missing iPad turned violent Monday evening, and a Rumford woman has been charged with aggravated assault charge.
Arica Marie Downs, 27, was taken into custody by Rumford police Cpl. Lawrence Winson shortly before 8:30 p.m. and accused of attacking another woman at a Waldo Street apartment and repeatedly punching and kicking her in the face, according to police Chief Stacy Carter.
The charges were aggravated because the woman was hit in the face, Carter said.
Downs is being held without bail at the Oxford County Jail in Paris and is expected to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.
According to Carter, officers were called to Rumford Hospital at approximately 7:15 p.m. for a report of a woman with serious injuries to her face.
The woman accused Downs of confronting her about an iPad that had gone missing earlier that day, Carter said. Downs is accused of punching the victim in the face, then kicking her when she was on the ground, he said.
Neighbors and others broke up the fight and the victim took herself to the hospital, according to Carter. Officers located Downs in the area and arrested her, based on statements from the victim and witnesses to the alleged attack, Carter said.
Police are still continuing the investigation, Carter said.
Downs also was arrested on violation of bail conditions, according to Carter. She was arrested by Rumford police less than a week ago on a warrant.
