The show, which Simoneau calls “Maine Memories,” features acrylic-on-canvas paintings of Freeport and Maine beach scenes.

Simoneau said, “A series I am revisiting is working boats along the Maine coast. These battered boats are used by the fishermen and lobstermen to get to their larger boats in the harbor. Due to harbor dredging and the increase in marinas for pleasure boats, these working boats representing a way of life are disappearing. My goal is to capture their images before they are gone.”

The show’s photography of the Bates Mill and other Lewiston and Maine scenes reflects Simoneau’s artistic interests and Maine heritage. This exhibition marks the first time Simoneau’s work has been seen in the area for over 23 years.

Simoneau said, “The effect of light on objects and atmosphere inspires me. The main subject in all of my paintings is light and its effect on the objects in the image.”
