WASHINGTON — A 20-year-old Appleton man was flown to a Lewiston hospital following a Monday morning car crash in which he was thrown from the vehicle and it landed on him.
David Fish was driving a 2000 Honda Civic east on Route 17 at about 5:30 a.m. Monday when it went off the road on a curve near the Roundhouse Road, went down an embankment, flipped and struck a utility pole.
Fish was ejected and was found under the vehicle, according to a news release issued by Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Tim Carroll. Fish was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center with serious injuries. Two passengers who were not ejected from the car, Billy-Ray Denman, 21, of Appleton and Paxton Mohney, 20, of Belfast, were taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport with minor injuries.
The driver and passengers were not wearing seat belts, Carroll said.
Fish’s condition was not immediately available.
The crash is being reconstructed by Maine State Police and forensic mapping is being done by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. A cause had not yet been determined early Monday afternoon as the investigation continued.
Deputies Matt Elwell and Paul Pinkham responded along with Washington Fire Department with Union and Sterling Ambulances.
