The city clerk’s offices in Lewiston and Auburn will hold extended office hours Thursday, June 5, to accommodate voters who would like to vote absentee in the June 10 state primary and special municipal elections.
Both offices will be open until 7 p.m. June 5 to serve residents who need to register to vote, pick up an absentee ballot for a family member, or vote an absentee ballot in person. The deadline to issue absentee ballots is the close of business Thursday night.
Any voter who wants an absentee ballot between Friday morning and election evening, June 10, will have to meet the state criteria for a special circumstances absentee ballot, such as unexpected hospitalization or emergency leave out of town.
The municipal ballots for Auburn and Lewiston will include candidates for the Joint Charter Commission. Voters in each community will select three candidates to serve.
In Lewiston, voters will choose one of two Democrats — Samuel Chamberlain or Walter Hill — to run for the Androscoggin County Commission District 2 race in November.
The only contest on the state primary ballot will be for the Congressional District 2 race, which pits state Sen. Emily Cain against state Sen. Troy Jackson for Democrats, and Kevin Raye against Bruce Poliquin for Republicans.
Auburn residents with election questions can contact the Auburn City Clerk’s Office at 333-6601. Lewiston residents with election questions can contact the Lewiston City Clerk’s Office at 513-3124. Election information is also available on the respective city websites.
