After much preparation in the Knox Street Garden in Lewiston over the past few weeks, Wednesday was the big planting day. While some crops were already in the ground, the favorites, peppers and tomatoes, were brought in by the staff from St. Mary’s Nutrition Center’s Lots to Gardens program. This garden comprises 27 plots and is one of many throughout the city that local families plant and tend. Rukiyo Hussein, 15, of Lewiston, right, is joined by friends, including Hani Ali, 13, middle.
