AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage is one of six Republican governors asking President Barack Obama to initiate reforms in the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The governors sent a letter to Obama this week after news of an attempt to cover up delays by veterans seeking getting health care. In the letter, the governors said they’re “deeply troubled and outraged by the significant negligence and systemic delays in patient care.”

The letter asks, among other things, for health care vouchers so patients can get care elsewhere if they have to wait more than 30 days for an appointment in the VA system.

Signing the letter were LePage and Govs. Rick Scott of Florida, Sam Brownback of Kansas, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania and Rick Perry of Texas.
