BRUNSWICK — Brunswick police alerted residents on Friday night that calls placed from Verizon Wireless phones to 911 and the police business lines are not getting through, and encouraged people to contact them by phone with another carrier or by email.

An message posted on the Brunswick Police Department’s Facebook page attributed the connection problems to “a problem at Verizon Wireless and/or Fairpoint.”

A dispatcher confirmed just before 9 p.m. that the problem continued, although Verizon was aware of the issue and working to correct it.

In an emergency, residents should call 911 from a phone that does not have Verizon service, or email police at bpdcomm@brunswickpd.org.
