PORTLAND (AP) — A rally for Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Mike Michaud that’s being headlined by former President Bill Clinton is being moved to a bigger venue.
The event scheduled for Tuesday night will now take place at the Portland Exposition Building. It was supposed to be at the Ocean Gateway, but Michaud’s campaign said high demand prompted them to move it to a larger location.
More than 1,500 are expected to attend the rally, which starts at 8:00 p.m.
Michaud’s campaign said that the overwhelming interest in the event shows the energy Mainers have for his campaign.
Republicans have seized on Clinton’s visit, noting that he also visited Maine in 2010 to support Democratic candidate Libby Mitchell, who came in third place with just 19 percent of the vote.
