NAPLES — Ted Tibbetts stopped just short of calling it the most impressive win in his four years as head coach at Poland, but Friday night’s 42-0 Class C West football rout of Lake Region is certainly in the discussion.
Six different Knights scored touchdowns, and Poland’s defense pitched a shutout against the Lakers for the second consecutive year.
“It was a complete team win,” Tibbetts said. “Our offensive line, too. Lake Region brought a lot of pressure, and they handled it well.”
Poland led 14-0 after one quarter and 35-0 at halftime.
Adam Mocciola rushed for a 15-yard touchdown and fired a 38-yard scoring strike to Will Bernier to bookend the first half.
Kaleb Irazzary added a 7-yard TD run in the first quarter.
In the second, Patrick Jacques plunged in from a yard out, and Robbie Porter ran it in from six yards.
Nick Cote’s 8-yard scamper and Mocciola’s fourth successful extra point of the night supplied the final count in the third quarter.
Wells 49, Mtn. Valley 14
WELLS — Mountain Valley’s 49-14 loss at Wells on Friday night was one of those line of demarcation games that have been frequent in the current Class C West configuration.
“We are what we are right now. There’s no middle in this league,” Mountain Valley coach Steve LaPointe said. “There’s an upper echelon and a lower echelon. There are four teams that we probably can beat, and there are four that we probably can’t.”
Chris Carney rushed for three touchdowns and Mike Curtis supplied two more for the Warriors, who led 34-0 at halftime.
Jordan Parent ran for a 4-yard TD to put the Falcons on the board late in the third quarter. Dylan Gaudet raced for a 53-yard score in the fourth.
Yarmouth 41, Gray-NG 0
GRAY — Yarmouth dampened the debut of new Gray-New Gloucester coach Mark Renna with a decisive 41-0 victory on Friday night in Class C West football.
Cody Cook ran for three touchdowns and Jack Snyder tacked on a pair for the Clippers.
Zack Haskell had a solid game running the football for the Patriots.
“He did a nice job,” Yarmouth coach Jason Veilleux said. “He was the guy we were most concerned with.”
