Fox Ridge Golf Club has just finished its second year with the First Tee of Maine program with a 9-, 5- or 3-hole tournament followed by a pizza party. The First Tee is an eight-week program where students not learned the game of golf under the directions of PGA pro Bob Darling and assistant Matt Wing. Participants also learned life lessons, rules of golf and the etiquette of the game. Each student begins at the player level. After completing the requirements in each level, they then move to par, birdie and end with eagle. Each level is completed in one eight-week session. Fox Ridge Golf Club is the only club in central Maine offering the program. Since becoming a First Tee site, Fox Ridge has adopted 8-inch cups on the first 5 holes with hopes of doing the front 9 soon as a learning tool. Fox Ridge also has the Tee It Forward tees that measure only 2,115 yards. Fox Ridge has family time on Sundays after 2 p.m.
