HALLOWELL (AP) — A city investigation into the conduct of Hallowell’s police chief has ended with an official reprimand but no punishment more than a year after he was accused of sexually assaulting a subordinate female officer.
The reprimand letter Tuesday to Chief Eric Nason says he showed “unsuitable personal conduct” and “lack of judgment.”
The letter, from City Manager Michael Starn, says Nason undermined public confidence in the department by having a sexual relationship with the 22-year-old woman who made the rape allegation against him in June 2013.
Nason — who said the encounter that drew the rape allegation was consensual — has not faced any criminal charges.
Darrick Banda, the female officer’s attorney, told the Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/1wptKFm ) that Nason should be fired and his client is considering her legal options.
