I have admired the courage and tenacity of John Cleveland for many years. As Senate chairman of the Utilities Committee, he worked tirelessly on legislation to bring lower-cost fuel alternatives, including natural gas, to Maine. Affordable heat is so important here. Gathering virtually all legislators, his calm and reasoned approach persuaded them to override the governor’s veto. More than two-thirds of each body passed that positive measure.
Constituents can count on Cleveland to work hard on measures that move the state to a better future.
When I ran for the Senate, he had already established the Poland School by law after Auburn was no longer able to tuition Poland students. That complicated and astounding achievement is just one more example of his leadership.
I hope others will join me in voting to return John Cleveland to the Maine Senate so he can continue improving the district and the state.
