Have you ever looked at your husband and thought, “What planet is he from?” Well, you can be sure he’s wondered the same about you! Ida LeClair– (officially named the funniest woman in Maine — gives hilarious advice on love, marriage and what to do when the double-wide’s feeling too small in her new comedy, “I Married an Alien,” playing at The Public Theatre, one weekend only, Nov 7, 8 and 9.
Writer/performer Susan Poulin brings her endearing alter-ego Ida LeClair back to life in her latest show about the funny but true moments in long-term relationships. Couples of all ages will identify with what Ida has to say about marriage, and both men and women have been seen exiting the theatre with smiles on their faces and renewed vows to keep their dirty socks off the floor.
Selected by Portland Magazine as one of the “Ten Most Intriguing People in Maine,” Susan has been creating and touring her original theatrical productions which include, “Ida: Woman Who Runs with the Moose!,” “Ida’s Havin’ a Yard Sale,” “Spousal Deafness and Other Bones of Contention” and “In My Head I’m Thin,” among others. Working in collaboration with artist, musician and actor Gordon Carlisle as Poolyle Productions, Poulin and Carlisle have been collaborating on plays, songs, and artwork for over two decades.
As her alter-ego Ida, Susan also writes the popular Maine humor blog and podcast, “Just Ask Ida,” and is the author of “Finding Your Inner Moose: Ida LeClair’s Guide to Living the Good Life,” published by Islandport Press. She is also launching a new TV talk show called “The View from He’ah.”
“We’re delighted to have Susan back again at The Public Theatre”, says Artistic/Executive Director Christopher Schario. “Her shows have been very popular with our audiences and we’re assuming “I Married an Alien” will continue that track record.”
The Public Theatre continues the introduction of its PLAY PAL program for people who love going to the theatre but can’t always find someone to go with connecting solo theatre-goers with other solo theatre-lovers when they attend the the 7 p.m. Friday, Nov 7, performance. PLAY PALS will be seated together and identified to each other making it easy to make a new friend at The Public Theatre. PLAY PALS are also given a coupon for a free concession item, encouraging them to mingle with other theatre-lovers during intermission. A “getting to know you” game card is also available for adventuresome PLAY PAL members, offering a chance to win fun prizes. Membership in The Public Theatre’s PLAY PAL program is free with the only requirement being that you are a solo-theatre-goer. Members can choose to see one play or every play in the season and the shows you attend are up to you. Who knows, you might find a new friend at The Public Theatre.
