Nothing bothers me more than when flags are not at half-staff when they are supposed to be. Those people who display the national flag on their lawns or businesses should know when to put it at half-staff.

I passed by at least two area fire departments that didn’t have their flags correctly displayed on Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day (Dec. 7).

It’s very disrespectful when people do not pay attention or know how to display their flags.

Editor’s note: Federal law requires the U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day (May 15), unless that day is also Armed Forces Day. Yearly presidential proclamations also mandate that the flag be flown at half-staff on Memorial Day (the last Monday of May), Patriot Day (Sept. 11), in honor of Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service (the first Sunday in October), and Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day (Dec. 7).
